Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century and it is associated with global warming due to the rise in atmospheric temperatures. The scientists have established that the increased concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere like carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide play a major role in global warming. According to the latest AR-5 & AR-6 IPCC reports, the first decade of the 21st century has been warmer than any preceding period since global temperature records began in 1850 and it is extremely likely that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming. Climate change is a challenge that humanity is facing at this very moment, not in the future.
As the world gets more crowded, engines continue to pump out dirty emissions, half of the world has no access to clean fuels or technologies and the air we breathe is getting increasingly polluted killing more than 7 million people every year. Climate change and air quality are both affected and influenced, by several factors that include the levels and types of pollutants emitted, how land is used, the chemistry governing formation of the pollutants in the atmosphere, and weather conditions.
India is one of the most vulnerable countries to face the adverse impact of the deteriorating air quality and global warming / climate change. Frequency of extreme events (heavy and very heavy rainfall to long spells of dry seasons) has increased in the county particularly in recent decades associated with rapid increase in concentration of Greenhouse Gases due to anthropogenic activities. The impacts of these events are visible not only in India but all over the globe viz. small islands to large continents, from the wealthiest countries to the poorest and from the tropics to the poles.
The changing climate has affected different sectors of economic activities. Therefore there is an urgent need for an immediate industrial decarbonization including advancement in GHG reduction by transitioning to low carbon or zero carbon energy system . The subject matter has gained further importance with Glasgow's COP-26. Beside observational systems, weather and climate prediction, analytical tools and technological innovations provided the additional opportunity to reduce the climatic risks and achieving sustainability. With this background IAAPC Delhi plans to hold this very important event on “The Industrial Decarbonization Summit - 22 (IDS-22)- Road Map For Carbon Neutrality By 2070”
The Industrial Decarbonization Summit - 22 (IDS-22) Summit will provide global platform for the discussion of new advances and research findings in the field of Climate Change. It would be beneficial to all concerned, who are at the forefront of one of the biggest challenges to humanity i.e. Climate Change and are responsible for shaping the future of the earth. I cordially invite you to participate in this summit
